Vehicles by Jeff Coatney
During a business trip to Hong Kong, I began to marvel at the myriad purpose-built vehicles the Vendors in Kowloon use to get around. I imagined this tea-serving moped as part of a series of small stores and kiosks.
The Columbia tragedy prompted this concept of an Apollo-type capsule, stowable in the Shuttle's cargo bay or attached to the Space Station, that becomes a crew "lifeboat" in the event they cannot return the Orbiter to Earth.
A twenty-first century Charioteer.
Vertical Take-Off and Landing, or VTOL aircraft used in an urban air-assault role could increase the flexibility of combat units to place troops in areas that helicopters cannot go, like between buildings, under bridges, etc.

This Astronaut lifeboat concept is more personal, more portable and can be stowed in larger quantities in a confined space because it folds into the size of a steamer trunk.
